Synopses:

The Girl in the Blue Dress: The Dutch artist, Johannes Vermeer, created his painting, Woman Reading a Letter, around 1663.

To quote Wikipedia:

The central element of the painting is a woman in blue standing in front of a window reading a letter. While the contents of the letter are not visible, the composition of the painting is revealing. The map on the wall behind the woman suggests that the letter she reads was written by a traveling husband. Alternatively, the box of pearls barely visible on the table before the woman suggests a lover as pearls are sometimes a symbol of vanity.

In the course of a twenty-year career, Vermeer painted no more than 60 paintings, forty of them featuring women. Little is known of his models. Vermeer died poor and virtually unrecognized in 1675. He was 43 years old.

The short play, Girl in the Blue Dress, explores the character of Johannes Vermeer and suggests who the model for Woman Reading a Letter, might have been.
